Dr. Pocurull, MD
Dr. Pocurull is board certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology. His years in Rheumatology have taught him to master injectables. Dr. Pocurull also has a degree in Psychology with his area of expertise as a trained counselor in relational therapy and boundaries.
Dr. Pocurull has had an interest in wellness for many years, much of it fueled by his experience in clinical practice. So why aesthetic medicine? Dr Pocurull’ s research and experience has led him to realize that our sense of what is beautiful is based on our sense of what is healthy. So, putting it simply:
Healthy skin is beautiful,
A Healthy body is fit and resilient,
A Healthy mind is at peace,
A Healthy spirit is close to God
In our Aesthetics Practice, we are not looking to “cover up flaws” as much as we are looking to make the skin and body healthy. We want to take a comprehensive approach, and the skin is where we chose to start. We then incorporate state-of-the-art scientific research.
So, is this vanity? Ask the survivor of a facial burn if trying to look beautiful is vanity. Ask the survivor of childhood abuse who has facial scars as a daily reminder of her tormentor. Is it vanity that they may want to improve their appearance? I think not. And in my opinion, anyone who is trying to improve their appearance or stay fit or learn how to manage stress better, is simply engaging in self-nurturing.
In counseling many patients over the years, one of the first observable signs a person is recovering and “feeling” better are when they begin to nurture and take care of themselves. Our mental state shows in how we take care of ourselves. Artisan’s seeks to be the premier choice in self-care when it comes to aesthetics and wellness.
Jennifer Pocurull
Artisan’s Rejuvenation Med Spa came to fruition after a vision Jennifer Pocurull had that she presented to her husband, Dr. Ricardo Pocurull about a wellness center. Jennifer’s background in marketing as well as her training as an Expressive Arts Facilitator where she learned about Patient-Centered®️ counseling, that teaches the cultivation of empathy, active listening, authenticity and unconditional positive regard guides the red carpet service you will receive as one of our valued guests.
Artisan’s Rejuvenation Med Spa came to be when Jennifer was attending training workshops during her Expressive Arts education when she took a “Visioning” course. At the end of this workshop the goal was for her to envision herself at the very zenith of her Expressive Arts career. The class started out with a guided meditation to help students see their full potential. In the workshop Jennifer could visualize her expressive arts workshops, in partnership with her husband, Dr. Ricardo Pocurull using his healing expertise in trauma, boundaries and couples therapy. The next step was to paint this vision. So after finishing the painting she sat staring at her painting when suddenly she had an epiphany, and thought… ‘Wouldn’t it be nice to add my very own personal spa to this wellness center?” She had no idea what this little epiphany would inspire in her husband.
After coming home from this workshop, Jennifer presented to her husband her vision of the wellness center and as a side-note quickly glossed over the personal spa…expecting him to laugh. Dr. Pocurull saw this wellness center as a way to spend more quality time with his patients; something that has mostly disappeared from modern medicine, with the current demands from insurance companies and government mandates. Dr. Pocurull later began researching the idea and found that at the heart of most successful wellness centers was a medical spa.
Jennifer and Ricardo decided to start by defining their mission and what they stood for. Jennifer had been trained in Person-Centered®️ Expressive Arts by the late Dr. Natalie Rogers, daughter of the esteemed Dr. Carl Rogers (father of American Psychology). Jennifer says: ‘She wants to bring knowledge of her therapeutic training in the Person-Centered®️ philosophy into the medical spa by treating you, the patient more like a guest in her home rather than a specimen or a broken person seeking for someone else to fix them. Additionally, she wants you to be an empowered part of the decision making process when it comes to your aesthetics and wellness’. This is why in the consultation room you will never be “told” what you need done. Instead the doctor, nurse and all providers are trained to hand you a mirror. The provider will then proceed to ask a series of open ended questions, listening carefully to your needs and wants; customizing a plan based on your concerns. Once suggestions are made, again, you are empowered to make choices as to what you want based on your age, goals, medical background in regards to safety, and efficacy and finally your budget. Jennifer reminds all of team Artisan’s of our brand which is to use synergistic, state-of-the-art treatments which are applied artistically or in other words are customized to every individual and their unique needs and wants, as well as delivering those treatments with a Person-Centered®️ philosophy; meaning each of our guests (you) are viewed with positive-unconditional regard, empathy, is listened to (not preached at) and you are given a plan of action that will result in an authentic & natural look, customized to fit your needs and lifestyle.
Jennifer’s believes her vision has come true at Artisan’s Rejuvenation Med Spa.
“Paintings can come true, after all!” …Jennifer Pocurull
